FE Mechanical Practice Test & Exam Prep

FE Mechanical (Fundamentals of Engineering)

Prepare for the NCEES FE Mechanical engineering exam. Master thermodynamics, fluids, and mechanics to pass on your first try.

What is the FE Mechanical Exam and How is it Structured?

The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Mechanical exam is the standard test administered by NCEES to certify engineering graduates on their path to becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (PE). The computer-based exam consists of 110 questions, including standard multiple-choice and alternative item types (such as fill-in-the-blank, drag-and-drop, and hot spots). Candidates have 5 hours and 20 minutes of actual testing time to complete the exam.

Why Engineering Graduates Struggle with the FE Mechanical Exam

The FE Mechanical exam is highly technical and covers a massive range of engineering disciplines, requiring you to recall concepts from your entire undergraduate curriculum. Many candidates fail because they struggle to solve complex equations under time constraints or fail to navigate the official NCEES Reference Handbook efficiently. Memorizing equations is rarely enough, as the exam tests your analytical reasoning and problem-solving speed.
